Weh Island
Weh Island is all about beautiful island above Indian Ocean as it enjoys terrestrial landscape and beautiful underwater heaven for scuba and diving attraction. Divers will easily finding sea fans, deep canyons, and rock pinnacles, they are following with colorful fishes. Weh Island shaped like a horseshoe while its northeastern side shaping Sabang city. In this city most of Weh people are living peacefully. If you visit Weh Island, just don’t miss Gapang and Iboih. Both famous tourist beaches are about 20 km from the northwest wing.
This volcanic island surrounded by four small islands like Klah, Rubiah, Seulako, and Rondo. Administratively Weh Island is part of Aceh province where Aceh tribe being major domination in this island. The rest of them consist of Minangkabau, Java, Batak, and Tionghoa people. Weh island offers a range of diver sites but the famous one is Rubiah Sea Garden. This garden located around 23,5 km in the western side of Sabang city or you can ride a boat about 7km nearby Iboih village. Government itself has announced this Rubiah waters area into special natural reservation.
The sea garden waters are calm and definitely clear where you can see its 25 meters depth above. Rubiah habitat is composed by wide variety of colorful tropical fishes and coral reefs. Here you can see gigantic clams, angel fishes, school of parrot fishes, lion fishes, sea fans, and others. Weh Island is also enjoying the beauty of beaches on its coastal areas. Recommended beaches are Sumur Tiga Beach and Tapak Gajah Beach as they considered to be Weh’s best collection beaches. The white sand is soft and its crystal clear salt water is an ideal bait to tempt you swimming longer. About two kilometers from Sumur Tiga Beach, you can find Ujung Kareun Beach. 17 kilometers from town, Weh island offering another kind of tourism destination unlike others. Here Cot Simeureugoh stunning on its semi-active volcano with its boiling water. This boiling mud well caters challenging hiking into some hot springs at various locations. Just ask locals in Sabang or Iboih Village for directions.
