Semarang City
Semarang usually had known by Lawang Sewu that means thousand doors. However there area many interesting destinations instead of this former building of train office that built by Holland colonialism. This Venice van Java displaying Vihara Buddha Gaya Watugong as it major destination. This vihara is far away rather than other destinations in Semarang city as it needs 30 minutes driving from the central of Semarang city.
This vihara setting up at least 20 smaller Kwan Im Goddess which facing all of cardinals to scent Her love to this city. Pagoda Kwan Im being the magnificent part of this complex as it protruding along 39 meters height. It is also the complement of Metta Karuna room in Vihara Avalokitesvara Srikukusrejo Kalong Mountain in Semarang Regency. Randusari Cathedral being the second attraction in this city as it lies on Tugu Muda area, dr. Soetomo Street Semarang. This historic construction in Semarang accommodates single façade within its western architecture. This complex designed in a square form with three entrances.
Sam Po Kong Temple can be find about 3 km from Randusari Cathedral. It had known as the first landing area of Cheng Ho Admiral, a Moslem Chinese admiral. In the other side you should not miss Srigunting Park at Kota Lama while it emphasized as its landmark. This park lies on Letjen Suprapto Street number 32, Kota Lama, Semarang while it flanked by Marba building in the southern side, Jiwasraya Building in southwestern side, Blenduk Church, and Kerta Niaga Building. Further Johar market is the biggest traditional market in Semarang. Johar market had built by Holland architect in 1937. Its unique architecture shaping like fungus on its roof, it enables fresh air circulation to this spacious area.
The market stall made as high as adult’s knees so women packers are easy to rest before they brought their heavy goods. Unfortunately now Johar market is filled by any kinds of traders, it makes crowded and heavy jam on this famous place. Chinese people are also leaving their trace on some Buddhist temples in this town. It is including Tay Kak Sie on Gang Lombok Street. It displaying the plaque of Dao Guang Emperor governance in 1821-1850 from Qing Dynasty. At first this temple made for Kwan Sie Im Po Sat devotees but later it developed into great temple for Tao Gods and Goddess devotees.
