Rengkong
This cultural event generates by origin people of Cianjur Regency, West Java. This traditional art performance comes from local behavior while local people removing rice from rice field into saung (granary). In the past West Java people brought home their rice by bamboo pole, the pole tied with 25 kg rice then it sounds like rangkong bird. That is why this art performance named rangkong.
Usually this art performance displaying 14 players, two of them bring big rengkong. Three others bring small rengkong, four others played as dodog player, and buncis angklung player consists of 5 persons. Rengkong itself represents a bamboo pole, fiber rope, paddy, and kerosene. These equipments will create loud sound like rangkong bird while dodog and angklung buncis assist rengkong. The players will wear traditional clothes like kampret cloth, pangsi, headband and sarong. This performance is usually brightening religion days in a parade. In a parade rengkong headed by five rengkong players then they are followed by angklung buncis players and dodog players. However it is not absolute while sometimes it packed collectively in which the players may move anywhere.
In the past it is not yet deemed as an art, it is just an entertaining sound when the farmers brought heavy paddy load. Then when it is being an art, it is also aimed for an attraction. Rengkong is not only in Cianjur, it also can be finding in Sukabumi and Banten. In both places it has different function as it aimed to thank Sri Goddess for Her blessing. However this simple art may use simple instrument but it has esthetic values for our daily life. It contains a hard work of farmers and cooperation between them. The hard work reflects by the sound of bamboo pole and fiber rope while cooperation appears on its performance. There is no good performance without good cooperation. However people life will always generate beautiful mind if we are caring each other like this art show.
