Art Philosophy of Javanese People

Indonesia is a diversity country as it has any kinds of cultural richness spreads on these regions. Puppet is one of Indonesia treasure while it is being traditional art in Java and Bali Island. Puppetry has confessed by UNESCO to be Indonesia culture on November 2003 and it is including to a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

Surakarta also still holds tight this traditional inheritance. When Keraton Kasunanan moved from Kertasura into Solo Village that recently mentioned as Surakarta, it is also brought puppetry art. This traditional show accommodates any kinds of puppet figures played by Ki Dalang. Ki Dalang played the puppet within the accompaniment of gamelan rhythm, dialog, and a noble human philosophy. The most famous story is Mahabharata and Ramayana from India. But there is purwa leather puppet with Buddhist teaching about human purification. Purwa leather puppet usually spends all night duration. When Sri Susuhunan X, Solo had Wayang Orang stage in Sriwedari where people played as puppet figures on stage. The story and its dialog came from each players and it holds constantly at night.

However no matter what materials are structured the puppet, puppet is always bring noble concepts to understand life. In puppetry Javanese people are not only facing general theory about living models and human behavior in a reality. Further puppetry tried to teach us about how we should live as a guideline for life. It teaches us about cultural values on its plot whether it tells about human relationship with God, human connection with environment, and human relationship with others.
