Double Flavor Lake
Labuan Cermin Lake is stretching far away in East Borneo hinterland. The special lake provides the only sea ecology behind lake’s ecology that actually living in fresh water. Both different water magically separated while the salt one existed in the deepest point of the lake. Labuan Cermin located in Biduk-biduk Subdistrict, East Borneo. The location is about three hours by boat from Derawan.
A cloud-like layer separated the two natural waters which can be seen from the surface. The crystal fresh water appearing fresh water fishes swimming around while few meters behind it is streaming by salt water. There is not research about it yet which makes its forming still being a mystery. The white turbid layer estimated the result of organism decay that trapped. The both waters living organism from both worlds. Fresh water fishes live peacefully in the surface while the sea water fishes can find in the bottom of the lake. The depth of both layer actually can change in accord with the tidal of sea water.
The tiny lake shaded by forest and a rising cleft in one side. It is fit by its name, the lake earmarked pure water as you can mirroring on it. But be careful some points of the lake have strong stream which easily can dragging amateur swimmer. The journey boating to the site inviting unforgettable experience to meet wild animals like monkey, bekantan, beaver, and honey bear. The isolated area and primitive facilities enable this place to be unknown. The only stay is a Fishermen Information Central (PIN), an environmentally preservation institution in that place. PIN accommodates a stage house in a head of the river, just few meters from the sea. PIN also being a base camp for fisherman kids who want to watch film about sea or reading its library collection. Here you can find another face of Indonesia which you can’t see in the other place.
