Nusa Penida
Nusa Penida has three small natural island such as Nusa Gede, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan had known for its natural underwater attraction. This island lies around 10 miles through the sea in southeast of Bali. The sea kept beauty and uniqueness of underwater ecology in Bali sea region. Group of green island glittering with its white sand coastal line and the clear blue ocean water are welcoming visitors. This small island width is not more than 20,000 hectare but it have complete coast ecosystem like coral reefs, mangrove and sea grass. They are natural tourism attraction instead of its important functions as natural protective beach from waves of Indian Ocean. This beautiful sea was living 247 coral reefs and 562 species of fishes. Five fishes species had found only in Nusa Penida. It enriched by 16,000 hectare of coral reefs and 230 hectare of mangrove prefered than Carribean island which has only 100 kind of coral reefs. Nusa Penida people made a living with sea grass cultivation, marine tourism, and fishing. The rest of people who lives in hill area worked as farmer and breeder. It becomes one of sea grass production central in Indonesia event it distributed to Europe, China and Japan.
Between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan, there is “Golden Gate” of Nusa Penida which is able to hold two wheels vehicle. In evening, you should not miss its sunrise moment through the lush of mangroves and sea grass meanwhile peacefull harmony made by faint bali gamelan sound and Hindu priest pray comes from some pura around.
Jungut Batu village in Nusa Lembongan offers traditional tour by traditional boat surrounding the mangroves. This wooden boat could carry 4 adults and was moving used long bamboo stick called galah. The avoidance of machine boat has some noble purposes. Villagers keep this water from oil and sound polution of boat machine. Along the way of mangroves journey you can hear bird and insect voices bolded by waves sounds for 30 minutes.
Nusa Penida has more than 20 diving location where you can find manta stingrays, turtles, sharks, sea rabbit, eel, squid, and many colourful fishes with various sizes. One of Nusa Penida underwater icon is mola-mola fish. Mola-mola is a kind of oceanic sun fish appears in 20-40 metres of sea depth, usually on July until September every year. It attracts tourists around the world to watch mola-mola basks which are difficult to find. Mola- mola width is around 2 metres with unique round tails, its fin rises in the upper and its lower body. This fish eyes looks funny. While you will found manta stingrays in Manta Point that located in the southern of Nusa Gede island.
