Harau Valley

Indonesia blessed with amazing nature in the form of mountain range as part of our island. It also belongs to West Sumatra which has wonderful Harau Valley in the northeast of Bukittinggi. It located on Kota Lima Puluh district, 15 kilometres from Payakumbuh.

Harau valley is a large cleft with diameter as much as 400 meters. Along the way to the valley, we will be surrounded by limestone hill whose height up to 80 metres until 300 metres. Since 1993, Harau valley regarded as natural reservation because of its varieties rare animals and also its flora. In this wildlife, you can see long tailed monkeys (Macaca fascirulatis). They are tame but often taking visitor’s food. Others primates living are gibbon (Hylobates syndactylus) and hoop (Presbytis melalopos). We often heard their voice but they does not exposed themselves. It also raises Sumatran tiger, bear, tapir, goat forest, hedgehogs, and 19 species of birds which protected by law.

Harau valley park offers recreational facilities such as camping for teens, local guide, and swimming area. You can enjoy five georgeous waterfall lies in this area. One of them located in Akar Berayun that also has swimming pool meanwhile four others are in Sarasah Bunta. Their clear water offers cold sensation among the heath of the day. Akar Berayun also equipped with cottage and resort. Minangkabau traditional transportation called Bendi are provided in Akar Berayun. Moreover, it has a small zoo where you can visit butterfly exhibit. For other kind of nature lovers, you can climb to the cliff top to see whole of Harau valley.
